Crime Against Women
- 3,27,394 cases of crime against women were registered in 2015 of which 2,113 were gang rapes, 36,735 were rapes, 84,222 were of sexual assaults and 59,277 were of kidnapping and abduction of women.
- In 95% rape cases, the rapist is known to the victim.
- 49% of rapes are of women between the age of 18 and 29 years.
- New Delhi tops the chart in crime against women. However, this also reflects that a larger number of cases are being registered in Delhi.
- The most common reason behind kidnapping of women is marriage. Often these cases include instances in which a woman’s family files a case of kidnapping against the man she elopes with.
Crime Against Children
- Children make up 90% of human trafficking victims. 90% of children trafficked were girls trafficked to be forced into prostitution.
- Sexual offences and trafficking formed 81% of offences against children
- Assam, West Bengal, Bihar and Haryana alone account for 85% of child trafficking cases in India
- Children are most susceptible to be raped in workplaces and neighbors pose the maximum threat of rape to children.
- Child trafficking from Nepal increased greatly after the Nepal earthquakes

- 45,003 cases of crime against scheduled castes were registered
- Maximum crime against Dalits is to be found in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh
Crime Against Scheduled Tribes
- 10.914 cases of crime against scheduled tribes were registered.
